What is treosulfan used for?
Treosulfan is an alkylating agent. It is used to prepare patients for bone marrow transplants (hematopoietic stem cell transplantation). The treosulfan injection is used before the blood stem cell transplantation in adult patients with cancer and non-cancerous disorders and children and adolescents aged older than 30 days with cancer.

HOW SUPPLIED/STORAGE AND HANDLING:
Care is exercised in the handling of EMTREO. Injection should not be open or broken. Emtreo Injection should be stored at room temperature, away from heat and direct light. Do not freeze it.
TREATMENT REACTION
Most common adverse reactions in adults and children include infections, nausea (feeling sick), stomatitis (inflammation of the lining of the mouth), vomiting, diarrhea, and bellyache. Tiredness, low white blood cell counts with fever, high blood levels of bilirubin are also reported in adult patients, and rash also affects children.
DOSAGE
The recommended dose of treosulfan injection is 10-14 g/m² body surface area administered by drip (infusion) into a vein over 2 hours for three days before the blood stem cell infusion. For adults, Emtreo injection is used together with fludarabine, and for children/adolescents, it is used along with fludarabine, and in most cases, together with thiotepa.
WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS
- Patients with treosulfan 5g injection should be monitored for blood cell counts frequently until recovery of the hematopoietic system.
- Concomitant use/application of live attenuated vaccines is not allowed.
- The treosulfan 5gm injection might impair fertility in men as well as women. Therefore, men must seek advice on cryo-conservation of sperm before treatment due to the probability of irreversible infertility.
- Sexually active men/women of childbearing potential have to use apt and effective contraception while up to 6 months following treatment.
- Use of treosulfan 5g injection is contraindicated during pregnancy.
- Breast-feeding should be discontinued during treosulfan injection treatment.
- Treosulfan injection has a moderate influence on the ability to drive as well as use machines.
